Issues With Cam Timing Adjustment

The cam magnets/adjusters on the M272 engines are a common failure point causing severe misfires as cam timing adjustment is restricted/inactive when the magnets fail. Oil leaks from the magnet O-rings are also a common determinant of potentially failing adjusters. The oil migrates into the wiring harness causing the electrical components of the magnet/adjuster to fail.

How Do We Fix It?

When completing the repairs for the adjusters, we add the Mercedes Benz updated wiring harness extensions in order to prevent oil migration through the harness.

The oil level is then checked and an engine degrease is recommended if an oil leak is present.
